Tacoma Lifestyle Flagship 4th Gen Build
We finally have our hands on a 2024 Tacoma and we are so excited to build it out. One of our Team Members Colby just picked up this 2024 Tacoma TRD Sport and we are going to get it decked out before Overland Expo in just under two weeks! Before we do that we wanted to give you guys a quick introduction to our 4th Gen build and a couple of plans that we have for it!
2024 Tacoma TRD Sport
Colby went with the TRD Sport for his 4th Gen Tacoma build which comes with the i-Force 2.4L Turbocharged Inline 4 producing 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. Colby chose the TRD Sport model because it comes standard with the hood scoop which was something he wanted as he was looking for a new 4th Gen. The first thing he had done to this truck was blacking out all the badging, fenders, hood scoop, and the roof which completely changed the look of the truck and gave it a similar look to the TRD Pro model.
First Impressions
The TRD Sport Tacoma came standard with 265/70/18 tires on 18" TRD Sport wheels. The OEM wheels on this truck look great and give the sport a unique look to other Tacomas. This is one of the first things that will be changing on this truck but we were really happy with how the truck looked from the factory with these wheels.
When sitting behind the driver seat in the TRD Sport there are two things that immediately stand out. First the massive 14" touchscreen display that comes on all vehicles equipped with the technology package. This touchscreen gives you control of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto as well as different vehicle settings. The second thing that stands out with the TRD Sport Tacoma are the blue interior accents. When I first saw this truck I was not a huge fan of this interior option which is only available on the TRD Sport trim but as I have continued to spend some time with this truck it has grown on me. I personally wouldn't spec my truck with these interior accents but they don't look as bad as I originally thought.
How Does It Drive?
The 2024 Tacoma has a completely new drivetrain from the engine all the way to the transmission. The engine has been changed to a 2.4L turbocharged 4 cylinder engine which produces 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. That 317 lb-ft of torque comes in at a very low 1700rpms which and even though the truck is turbocharged it doesn't drive like a turbocharged car. With turbo engines, turbo lag can become an issue, especially off road. With the 2024 Tacoma it almost drives like a naturally aspirated car with very minimal (if any) turbo lag.
The transmission is also new in the 2024 model. Upgrading from the 3rd Gens sluggish 6 speed transmission to an all new 8 speed unit. This transmission might be the most notable difference on the new Tacoma as it no longer gear hunts when going up any sort of incline.
Plans For This Build
We have a ton planned for this new Tacoma Lifestyle build. First on the list will be wheels and tires. The stock 265 size tires just aren't big enough for what we have planned for the truck so stay tuned to our YouTube channel for updates to the new wheels and tires we will be adding to this truck.
The idea behind this build is to be the perfect 4th Gen Overland Rig so we have partnered with Xtrusion Overland, Blaze Off Road, Diode Dynamics, and CBI to get this truck ready for Overland Expo West!
Final Thoughts
We are so excited to start building this truck out in preparation for Overland Expo West. If you're going to the show make sure to stop by our booth and check out everything we will have done to this rig! After expo we will be doing more to this truck to get it ready for different trips this year.
The new Tacoma is a great platform for any off road or overlander looking for their next rig! Toyota has done a lot of work to make this truck easy to upgrade and worked with many companies to produce aftermarket parts for this truck. If you have a 2024 Tacoma and you're starting to build it out, go ahead and check out our website for anything you need for build!
