Trail Review - Chicken Corners
Chicken Corners is one of the most popular trails in the Moab area and we finally got to take some of our truck out on the trail for a company trip. This is one of my personal favorite trails for a few reasons that we will share with you today and by the end of this blog you will have a better idea of the difficulty of this trail, what to expect while driving it, and why it is one of the best in Moab.
Chicken Corners
Length: 9 Miles
Difficulty: Moderate
The Chicken Corners trail starts in the Kane Creek are of Moab on the eastern side of the Colorado River. From the start of the trail you travel through red rock canyons and plateaus following along Kane Creek until you reach a valley with multiple maintained camping sites. This a great area to camp if you are wanting to avoid more crowded areas of Moab.
As you continue down the trail you will climb up a sandstone mountain to Hurrah Pass. On either side of Hurrah Pass you will find amazing views of the Moab area and the Colorado River. As you continue down the other side of the pass you will pass through steep cliffs, narrow canyons, and sand dunes. The trail can be rocky but can be done in any Tacoma or 4Runner.
Towards the end of the trail you will encounter the area which gives this trail its name. As you end the trail it narrows around a left hand corner between a cliff side and the Colorado River. You will still have plenty of room to drive but it is important to be careful in this area. After reaching the end of the trail you will drive out the way you drove in to get to the end of the trail.
Final Thoughts
Chicken Corners is one of the most accessible trails in Moab and is a great first trail if you have just picked up your Tacoma or visiting for the first time. Make sure to pack a snack and plenty of water because this trail can take a long time to complete if you take breaks which we recommend you do so you can enjoy all the amazing views from this trail.
